Oh Hello Friday Font! 07.06.12

Hello and sorry for not being able to post free fonts for so long (two Fridays, was it?). I’m back with a beautiful font family (yes, an entire family).

This is called Nautic (although when you download the file, it’s Nautik – don’t ask me why). It’s a dainty slab-ish serif that’s described to be “influenced by the shape of nautical vehicles”. And that it is. Especially the “Y” – something about it screams “sea” to me.

The family has five weights (yes, FIVE!) ranging from extra-light to black. One thing though is that as you go thicker, the letters get shorter. So design-wise it’s going to be a bit of a challenge to have multiple weights in one line. A little peeve, but something livable.
