The Hunt 101 Imperial Nib

I love having a new toy! It’s just over an inch long. But I bought 12 of them. HAHA. Such a hoarder. Anyway, I was supposed to just purchase nibs and holders for the calligraphy class, but I couldn’t pass off trying out a nib for myself. Since I was going to ship via a batch from the US c/o House of Flair, I may as well take advantage of it.
This is the Imperial nib sitting beside the Hunt 99 just for size comparison. I didn’t think it would match the flexibility of the 99, because it felt harder, sturdier. But not as sturdy as the Zebra G. The Imperial is beautiful. The Hunt 99, though small, holds its own by virtue of those larger slits on its either side (looks like a futuristic robot leaf thing, actually).
Now onto inking! The Hunt 101 Imperial writes smoothly and deliciously. This is writing on a page of my Blue Feather notebook. Also tried it on parchment paper which was slightly rougher, and it was still smooth. I was also surprised by its softness. But to me nothing has beaten the Hunt 99. The tip of the Imperial is a wee bit rounded. I think it would be a fine tip when unflexed. The flexing provides superbly yummy variation, like the 99.
The main differences between the two would be the feel of the metal when the tines split and the point’s writing when unflexed. The Hunt 99 flexes almost brush-like. And it would be an extra-fine. Almost hairline.
I’ve had it only for a few days and it’s gotten to be a favorite nib next to the 99. It’s such a shame such beauties aren’t readily available here. I’d usually wait for a relative or friend to visit Manila from the US. At least now there’s House of Flair and they could purchase all these for me and I just need to wait for my shipment batch to come in. YAY the hoarder in me jumps for joy!
I actually also bought a bottle of white ink, but I don’t have black paper for testing. That will come soon!
